A screw conveyor moves bulk material as a rotating helical flight carries it through a trough or tube. It can transfer, elevate or meter suitable powders, granules and other bulk products between process stages.
The simple principle does not mean every screw is interchangeable. Material behavior, bulk density, particle size, throughput, inclination, inlet condition and operating duty affect the geometry, drive and construction. A screw feeder under a hopper also performs a different job from a conveyor receiving a controlled feed.
